3. Consider your body shape and what styles flatter you.

Sometimes buying in a Bridal shop, sales assistant will be very happy to sell to you and she will do everything to do that, (because they are usually working on comission), but they are usually not a real stylist, which can leave you buying a dress, that doesn't doesn't show off your best features. Here are my Top Tips!

If your dress is frilly, you could make the mistake of adding a headpiece that is too fussy.  The look can become too much! The first question I always ask is "who are you at the bridal party"?

If you are the mother of the bride, then you are the one who wears the biggest hat then it goes to the mother of the groom, wedding guest & so forth??

 I however always say, there are two people getting married, the mother of  the groom is just as important!

 When you have chosen your outfit, shoes & jewellery- It is then that you choose your hat or headpiece.

For bridesmaids you want to somewhat match the bride. If your dress has a lot of details with sparkles on it, I suggest a hairband with colours and beading to match the dress, the important thing to remember is not to overdo it.

As a wedding guest but part of the wedding party i.e. a sister or sister in law etc you can afford to make a bigger statement. If you opt for a one shoulder dress then I would always advise choosing a hat that sits to the opposite shoulder of the dress, that is, the bare one. This way the look is not over crowded & allows for no empty space.

If your dress is fitted, maybe simple with a sweetheart neckline for instance, then you can opt for a larger hat & make a statement. With this type of hat it's best for it to have a see through brim at the base. This way although it's a large hat, it doesn't look heavy or structured. Go for a bright colour too, after all how many times does your daughter get married!

This also applies to racing days: make a statement, wear something bigger & brighter but make sure it's not louder than your dress. Simple fitted dress-larger hat!

If your dress has a lot of beading on it & the shoulders are bare you don't want to go too strong by adding a huge hat. You never want to take over from the dress.  I would again suggest a hairband not a hat with details on it that match the dress, maybe add some feathers to give height.   Again it's good to match but never over do it!

One shoulder dresses can make you look taller as opposed to no straps but always match the hat to the opposite side shoulder - the bare one.

Be careful if you are petite in height when wearing a one shoulder dress, do not add a large hat as it will make you disappear. With this look you have to make sure you are picking the correct size hat for your height.

Always remember anything is possible after the occasion to completely change the look of your outfit by re-styling it. You can make it shorter, add or take away beading, remove sleeves or cut them off! Let's make clothes more sustainable & look after nature at the same time.

It’s extremely lightweight too. I actually forgot I was wearing it at times - especially when I set off the airport body scanner machine!! I want to kick to off by talking about the most common body shapes.

The Apple
You have narrow hips, a large bust, full midsection, and no waist. Your midsection is the
widest part of your body.

Tip 1

If you have a short neck, wear a V-neck. A dress with a standing collar will give that luxurious feeling and rich look. It will also make you look taller. With an apple shape I  create a waist, so broader shoulders will make it look like your waist is smaller, therefore creating more of a curve. Gathers on your waist are great to create the illusion of having a waist! A dress with nude panels helps to create the shape you want and gives the illusion of having a smaller waist and hips.

The Pear 

Your hips are larger than your bust. You have a dened waist, and legs are more rounded. Most likely, your slimmest parts to show are your neck and shoulders. Because your shoulders are slimmer, you need to make them look wider so they appear to be more in proportion to your hips.

Tip 2 

A peplum style suits this body shape best. I want to highlight all the wonderful features you have as a woman, and this can be done by creating curves with a peplum and the mermaid style.

The Triangle  

This shape is broad shoulders, a wide back, and a bit more of a bust. 

Tip 3

 A nice cleavage and slim legs are probably your best features, so use every opportunity to aunt them. Wrap style dresses look amazing on you. To look a little more feminine, get some shiny belts, especially if you just want to add more details at your waist, and furry skirts to make the rest of your body look to be in proportion with your shoulders, and your waist will look smaller.

The Ruler 

Your shoulders and hips have the same proportion, but you have no waist. 

 Tip 4

Show off your legs and bust décolleté! Big slits are very effective, and a peplum will help to make your waist look smaller. And use a belt. Looks like a waisted jacket on the dress need to be below your hipline to create the illusion of a longer body. Don’t wear a strapless dress. A small cap sleeve is a must. A V-neck dress with lots of details would look great on you. You can create your desired body shape by adding nude panels at the waistline. It will create the illusion of having an hourglass silhouette. 

The Hourglass 

So you have a wide bust, a narrow waist and a wide hip in the same proportion, this body shape looks like a perfect curve.

Tip 5

Add a belt to your outfit.  A skinny belt will not be as effective as wide one. Your hips and shoulders are in proportion with each other. A small waist is the best part of your body, so let’s accentuate it as much as we can.  Halter neck tops & dresses also will look great on you, if you are small in height they will make you look taller.

So here I am standing there looking at this stranger & hearing that the most important person in my life, my Dad, my hero who I looked up to, the person who treated me like a princess. My Dad, who has always protected me, decided to leave this world. In those few seconds, I started to remember his last words to me.

 “You are the best thing that ever happened to me, I love you so much, the little person who I will love forever”

Every morning I would run into his room & give him a big teddy bear hug, feeling his arms wrapped around me making me feel so safe.

Looking at this stranger, my childish smiling face went to this dark frightening feeling that I never felt before. My protector is gone, my hero has left me. This stranger looked into my eyes with no compassion & said ” You have to tell your Mom”

My subconscious mind clicked in & said now you have to protect yourself, you are responsible for yourself now, no one else is going to take care of you. No one else will ever take his place.

In those terrifying moments I grew up! I became a soldier.  One who doesn’t believe in love,

wrapped in protective armor as a shield, not letting anyone into my heart. I will never allow my heart to feel that pain again, I said to myself.  I functioned with a locked heart, I became a super woman, blocking out feelings.  I still loved my Dad so much, thinking how just a couple of hours before he decided to leave this world he told me how much he loved me. Were those his last words, did he say those to me because he knew what he was going to do?!

My little mind started racing. Being only 7 years old, how can I bring this news to my Mom that “Dad has left us”! During these times we didn’t have mobile phones. I didn’t even know where my Mom worked, I was only a child. It’s not something I knew. I had to find my brother & sister too & tell them that our Dad is gone from this world. Something changed in me that day as you can imagine. I realized I have to step up now & protect my family. This huge responsibility is now on

my shoulders. I almost became the man of the house, I did all the DIY! Everything that needed to be done around the house, I did it. Why I reacted this way at only 7 years old, I don’t know.

It was seen as a shameful act to take your own life during these times, especially in our religion. His remains were not allowed in the church. All of his family turned away from us, we were the outcasts. My grandmother, aunts & cousins were all gone too. No one wanted to be around us. This dark cloud surrounded us, my Mom always blamed that perhaps she did something wrong.

I know one thing however, it’s not for me to judge him.  Back when I was 7 there was no one to talk to about my mental health as a child & how to deal with my Dads passing. We all have our own stories & they affect us all differently which is one of the reasons I feel I have been called to do this pilgrim walk. There is still a stigma attached to people who are living with mental health difficulties, bringing awareness to this means a lot to me.

The Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St. James, is an ancient pilgrimage trail originating in medieval times. I will be making this powerful journey with my higher powers. I will be starting on Mar 31st and finishing on Apr 9th this Easter in aid of the wonderful charity Jigsaw. A cause dear to my own heart.

Who is, or what is Jigsaw?

Jigsaw is a youth mental charity that understands and supports young people’s mental Health. They believe in an early intervention and prevention approach when it comes to mental health. Both online and in person, they give advice and support to help young people aged 12 to 25 years-old.

And they give families, educators, and those who support young people’s mental health ways to cope and the skills to be there for young people.

My story & experience has brought me to a career of helping women & men feel more confident in their own skin & attract the love they deserve.  After my Dads passing I realized that something was not right in my heart. Asta Jakubson was attending The Forbes Magazine party at The Cannes Film Festival earlier this year when she was approached to create the majestic head piece for Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Dr Elham Madani, a film executive residing in Canada with links with an Iranian dynasty.

The stunning "sun goddess" creation made from a thermoplastic modelling material, Swarovski crystals and hand stitched leather roses took more than 20 hours to make and was sent by special delivery to Vancouver in Canada.

Asta who has a successful fashion design business previously spoke how she had been inundated with requests for bespoke masks for brides during the pandemic with the talented Dunshaughlin woman sending her creations as far as America. 

Earlier this year she showcased her collection at the prestigious Film festival in France and says she couldn't believe her designs were so revered they would end up being fit for royalty.

"I always believe when you open one door, five more will open and I believe that's what happened when we were invited last year to Cannes Film Festival," she said. I always say be ready to be seen by the highest person because you never know who's watching you.

"We got talking to an actor at the Forbes party who said I know who will love your style and he put me in contact with her majesty and we have become good friends ever since.

"I couldn't sleep that night I just wanted to get started on it!"

According to a spokesperson for the royal, her sovereign lineage goes back to the Royal House of Al Madani originated by Sheikh Muhammad Hamza Dhafer Al- Madani (1768-1846). Empress Dr Elham Madani's family also has links with The House of Morris/ Tudor of Wales of UK says the royal source.

Explaining how she created the stunning head piece, Asta said:

"The headpiece is made from a very special lightweight sculpting thermo plastic art product called worbla, done by hand by my partner Ricardas Stasiskis.

"It is moulded once it cools, so the exact detail is achieved. It is a very time consuming process but as the princess wanted to be a sun goddess a huge amount of thought and design went into it. Every rose was made from leather, sprayed with gold paint & all hand done by myself. I added Swarovski crystals all beaded into the headpiece with some draping from the crown.

"The headpiece itself was added to hair band so that it fit comfortably on her head, it was also quite lightweight as it is so important that it feels perfect and is easy to wear. The gold base complemented the princesses' dark hair perfectly as with all my handmade headpieces that are individually made for all of my beautiful clients."

The secret, she says, is to work with what one has. A few of her tips include how to look taller and slimmer by wearing long maxi dresses with a train of some sort.

For those with issues in the mid-section, Asta recommends using a style that gathers on the sides to camouflage the area.

The stylist also points out that adding a short topcoat or wrap can help someone with what is known as a pear-shaped body to appear elongated. If one’s shoulders are larger than the hips, using more volume on the bottom portion will balance out the look.

Finally, wearing a headdress, hat or crown will add visual height to the outfit.

Recently, after tragically losing her mother to the current health crisis, Asta created a clothing line that protects the user from EMF (electric and magnetic fields) of energy.
